This is a post I wrote on Jan 31st but never got to post...

So, I’ve been in England since yesterday. The flight to Heathrow from Dulles went quicker than expected. We left on time and arrived early. I even got about 20 min of sleep! I then proceeded through customs and all the security (they even take your picture. weird.) and made my way to the connecting flight. I got some coffee (it was around 6-6:30 London time, 1am my time), and sat around til my next flight boarded at 8:30. I enjoyed the flight to Manchester because 1) it was short and 2) I could see out the window. So pretty! After getting to Manchester and picking up my bags, I followed the signs to the train station through the maze. I eventually made it to the train station and met up with Lydia, another first timer to York. We chatted all the way up on the train, and it was nice to finally have a buddy! On arrival in York, it too a bit of work but we found the taxi line, and made our way to the Bible College. The flats are right across the street from Walmgate bar. In fact, I can see it from my window! I’m in flat 9, which is really more like a town house. The kitchen and living room are on the ground floor (read 1st floor). There are two rooms and a bathroom on the 1st floor (read 2nd floor), the same on the 2nd floor (read 3rd floor). I’m on the 1st floor. I have three roommates, Jordan and Sarah, and Esther (whom I have not yet met). Helen (the CCBCY secretary) showed Lydia and I in, and then told us to go over to the coffee shop run by the students. We went on over and met some new and returning students. Then Lydia and I went to the local grocery store, came back, got settled in, and then I basically hung out for the rest of the day with the different girls in the flat, showered, and went to bed. (funny story: so apparently this was a guy’s flat last semester, and the shower head is the detachable kind that you can move around…but it is detached permanently because one of the guys broke the thing that held it to the wall. So, taking a shower is an interesting experience)
After a nice, 13 hour night’s sleep, I was ready for the day! Today after breakfast a few of us went to downtown York for lunch and shopping at Boyes (think Roses in the burg) and Pound Land, the UK’s Dollar store. Then it was back to the flat and meeting more new arrivals, and dinner in one of the other flats where I met some more people! I’m glad to meet so many new people, but I miss the old ones already. And, my computer is dying I think. Pray for it, I can’t deal with this right now. And, when I do manage to turn it on successfully, my internet in the flat won’t connect. Ugh, me and my issues.
